What Watch Winder is Recommended for the New Grand Seiko SLGA008 Watch?
Last time we talked about the recommendation of watch winder for Omega Seamaster Diver 300, today, we will talk another brand.
In February 2021, Grand Seiko released a high-frequency watch (SLGH007) with a dial design that incorporates a delicate pattern representing the intricate annual rings of trees. Designed to celebrate the company's 140th anniversary, the watch won high praise from watch enthusiasts around the world for the organic texture of the dial and the powerful yet understated appeal of the overall design. Now, the brand is celebrating the company's anniversary with the launch of a watch featuring the same unique case and dial design and equipped with the new Spring Drive 9RA2 movement.
About Grand Seiko
As an independent watch brand under the SEIKO Group, Crown Blue Lion has been on a journey of precision and aesthetic exploration since its birth in 1960. Over the past 60 years, its beauty, readability, precision and durability have remained the classic pursuit of an ideal watch. The demands of the times and new technologies have made precision a global obsession, and the competition in the field of chronographs has become even more intense.
In 1964, the Swiss chronometer competition graciously accepted Grand Seiko's entry. In the following years, Grand Seiko steadily improved its ranking in the competitions held in both Neuchâtel and Geneva, and in 1968, the Grand Seiko movement received the best prize in all mechanical watch-related competitions held by the Swiss Observatory, which increased Grand Seiko's brand awareness.
In the mid-1990s, Grand Seiko launched the Caliber 9S mechanical movement, ready in 2006 with the Caliber 9S67, which pushed the limits of the traditional single barrel mechanism to develop an automatic mechanical watch that could provide a continuous power supply for three days. With the same 28,800 vibrations per hour as the Caliber 9S55, the Caliber 9S67 uses the same diameter barrel as the existing 9S5 production line, but with a wider and 10 cm longer mainspring, thus achieving a 72-hour continuous power supply.
About Grand Seiko Heritage Collection
The watch is equipped with the new Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA2 movement, which inherits all the performance features of Spring Drive Calibre 9RA5, launched last year to celebrate Grand Seiko's 60th anniversary. The new setting of the hands, as well as the moving of the power reserve indication to the back of the movement, give the dial a slim and elegant look, highlighting Grand Seiko's signature mastery of craftsmanship.
The sapphire crystal case back reveals for the first time the understated charm and beauty of the movement and the distinctive Japanese aesthetic for which Grand Seiko is renowned. The delicate textures on the movement's face reflect the white frost on the trees in the forest surrounding the Shinshu Toki no Kobo workshop where the Spring Drive watches are made in winter. The lines of the bridges and the drilled edges are diamond-cut to reflect light from all angles. The gemstones and power-reserve blued steel hands add a quiet radiance that is pleasing to the eye.
The 9RA2 movement makes the new timepiece thinner than any other Spring Drive automatic watch currently available. The slimness of the movement derives from the redesigned and repositioned Magic Lever mechanism, which has been set away from the center of the movement to reduce its thickness. The new setting of the hands also helps to maintain the watch's slim profile. The 9RA2 movement incorporates two barrels, one larger and one smaller, providing a total power reserve of up to 120 hours. The new IC assembly has a built-in sensor that measures the internal temperature of the movement, while the highly stable quartz crystal oscillator has passed a three-month endurance test process, making it possible to achieve an accuracy of ±10 seconds per month. The oscillator and the sensor are vacuum-encapsulated into a single component, eliminating any temperature differences between them and thus allowing the watch to maintain the highest level of precision.
The organic texture of the dial is pleasing to the eye and vividly illustrates Grand Seiko's philosophy of the essence of time. The dial is layered and varied, revealing the subtle differences in the shades of the wood grain. The brown dial forms a perfect match with the 18-carat pink gold case, giving the watch a soft and warm feel. The design is faithful to the Grand Seiko style defined by the famous 44GS in 1967, while combining the brand's heritage with a contemporary feel that perfectly expresses the quiet yet powerful personality of Grand Seiko. The strong hands and fluted hour-markers ensure excellent legibility. The alternation of ultra-mirror polishing, flawless mirror finishing and delicate brushed finishing gives the case a quiet and harmonious shine. In keeping with the brand's heritage, the asterisk at 6 o'clock indicates that the hour-markers are made of solid gold, as are the GS letters, the date frame and the buckle. The large size of the hour hand, precisely aligned with the fluted hour markers, enhances the legibility of the time.
The watch will be available from November 2021 in a limited edition of 140 pieces in Grand Seiko boutiques and selected retail stores worldwide.
